Deab doesn't care to save the victims of the demon deal because he believes it's their choice to die

A starving artist gives them his motivations for the deal -- wanted to be great, to have his life remembered. Says it's his bed to lie in. The deal, to him, was not worth it → "I brought it on myself, I brought it on them!" Sam: "You don't really want to die." The Artist: "I don't? ...I'm tired."

Guy they have to save sacrificed himself so that his wife could live. She didn't have a say-- self sacrifice is selfish unless you're Sam and Dean I guess ♥ (which is actually the point. SamDean are INCREDIBLY selfish about saving each other to the point where they constantly and so reliably choose each other over the world that the entire cosmos relies on it). Guy has already begun to accept his guilt, Dean says: → "Did you ever think about her in this? I think you did it for yourself so you wouldn't have to live without her. But now she's gonna have to live without you. What would she say if she knew how much it cost?"

Dean goes to summon the demon against Sam's wishes-- Sam doesn't think he's in a good plave to deal with demons. Named John's cause of death.

Demon knows Dean. Sexually harrasses him a bit. Dean offers his life for a random ass guy. Demon speaks John's deal as truth. Keeps trying to goad demon into hurting/killing him -- she taunts him (see quotes) and Dean looks so fucked up about it she falls into his backup trap. Offers John back on Dean's request-- same 10 year contract. Says outright Dean is supposed to be dead. → "I'm not gonna put you out of your misery. Your misery is too fun to watch." "It's all your fault." "I wish you a nice, long life." (threat)

Dean was never meant to be the Michael sword-- he will always be second to John-- or: he isn't good enought because he's trying to mold himself into a mold that doesn't fit while Sam rejects it outright. He really does consider giving his sould for John's. → says he was violated by demon tongue ♥

John is in hell being tortured. Dean threatens to double cross the demon-- even demons keep their word. John's legacy in Dean's eyes should have been the fulfillment of his revenge. Sam says that John's legacy is them and their work. → Dean told Sam everything -- including the fakeout deal. Won't say if he considered or not.
