Bloody Mary

Back

Initial Overview:

Children's game summons ghost that kills those who have dark secrets involving deaths they were never punished for, regardless of whether or not they're actually guilty.

Notes:

Sam has another Jessica dream ("Why, Sam?") & Dean suggests talking about it. Excuse given is that he doesn't want Sam to be sleep deprived because then he won't be able to have his back.

Dean earned money in a poker game & is upset when Sam spends it all

They intrude upon a wake & comment on being underdressed

Lily-- youngest blames herself for dad's death, childish mistake. Dean offers forgiveness

"We had to go to the bathroom"

Rich pretty girl dies over a hit & run she committed and never confessed to

(I have no idea why this is in my notes but it seemed to be important to me when I wrote it, so here you go.)

Mirrors are a true reflection of the soul within, which is why it's bad luck to break them

Mary the ghost: died in vain trying to expose a terrible secret

Charlie (woman of the episode)-- belives Bloody Mary exists & looks into it to absolve her guilt over her own terrible secrets

Sam believes his sin is worse than Charlie's (her boyfried killed himself over her not getting back with him)

Mary is vengeful but misguided & hurts innocents due to her combination of rage & entrapment. Her purpose has been warped by the afterlife, hinting towards the broader concept of spirits as warnings against vengeance.

Dean pulls over to talk to Sam about Jess, tells him it wasn't his fault & offers to shoulder the blame. Genuinely considers leaving everyone to die so that Sam doesn't have to use himself as bait.

Dean stands in the reflection with Sam.

Dean altercation with cops #2. Saves Sammy like a knight in shining armor

Dean can offer absolution, Sam can offer acceptance/forgiveness (except to himself, unless he has Dean's permission)
