Scarecrow

Back

Initial Overview:

Young couple is sacrifiece to pagan god in exchange for prosperity and personal happiness in one small town. SamDean have first big argument.

Notes:

John calls. God directs them toward a junction he created (selfish), an argument that needs to happen. God has all the information. John wants them, orders them to stop looking for him → BLIND OBEDIENCE is faith/love. Sam's rebellion is the greatest sin: disobeying the father. But his rebellion is driven by a search for true connection, for the love denied to him all his life.

John (mis)directs them to Scarecrow. Dean is desperately obedient, (???)ing but naive. His world is centered around the search for God's love as much as Sam's is, but each of them has only to give what God wants from the other. Sam, as the cursed child, must be obedient to the word lest his blood lead him astray. Dean, as the lost child, must stand for himself--be of his own, for this God can stand neither a sheep nor a wolf.

Cain & Abel: do not know what will win God's approval. Abel kills a sheep (first murder). Cain harvests plants.

Sam is driving. Dean lauds John's hunting skill.

Argument

Less than an hour later Dean can't stop thinking about Sam. First episode apart.

Meg is here now. !!Distracts Sam from Dean!!

Woman of the week Emily unintentionally exposes town/family secret. Town immediately betrays her and sets her as part of the sacrifice. Emily is not from the town. Her parents were also sacrifices.

Dean literally cannot stop talking about Sam. Is extremely weird about it (asocial)

Dean altercation with the cops number seven million

Meg designs backstory specifically to appeal to Sam. Sam will not admit a true break from Dean.

Man door hand hook car door again.

Dean calls Sam. They talk like they didn't just abandon each other on an empty road in the middle of the night. Dean: "I can cope without you. Trusty sidekick geek boy." Won't admit he misses him ♥ ♥ ♥

They! Can't! Go! Eight! Hours! Without talking or bringing the other one up!!! Meg is using sex appeal but Sam is too busy thinking about his brother to GAF!!! "I'm sorry too" LET ME KILL MYSELF.

Dean loves how Sam is able to stand up to John. Wishes he were strong enough. Allows Sam the choice to come back which of course he makes because he needs Dean's validation/permission/forgiveness more than he will ever need God's. LET ME KMSSS. In their sin so unorthodox, so sic, neither heaven nor hell can face what they've created! God made them this way and fears it!

Sacrifice of others for the selfish good = bad

Dean doesn't pick up after Sam spends THREE HOURS nonstop calling him. Meg makes a plea to her percieved wedge between SamDean. Sam is too fucking WHIPPED to GAF

Dean lays judgement on townsfolk. They are guilty of murder as much as the scarecrow-- sending people to die is murder

Family = sacrifice, giving up something you love for the greater good. And something SamDean will never ever do. Ever.

Dean says he wasn't sincere about what he said to Sam when they were arguing. Says "that's my boy" and then cuts to Emily looking weirded out. These bitches GAY

Scarecrow kills traitorous townspeople. Betrayed daughter burns down family tree herself. This vengeance is worth it to her and she leaves town before the effects begin to reveal themselves.

Dean is all Sam has. We're all that's left.
